Miraculous Fighters is a 2D fighting game centered around Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. It features every Miraculous holder as a playable character, as well as other Zagtoon characters.

Development

After having started work on an idea for an anime crossover traditional fighting game, Aidan Drury quickly found that, after not dedicating as much time to it as he used to, they didn't have the same interest in anime as he had before. However, one of their interests prominently laid at the top of their list: the world of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. They had begun to think up ideas for a 3D action game centered around the show, but had also thought up ideas for a fighting game with the show's main cast. These ideas quickly grew as the show itself was progressing and introducing other characters with new abilities, and Aidan settled on the idea of every Miraculous holder being their own playable character. In the process of deciding on the game's roster, they also came up with the idea of including other Zagtoon Animations protagonists, as they enjoyed crossovers and guest characters, but also felt the inclusion of such characters would feel natural in a game already centered around a Zagtoon Animations production.

Aidan later brought a close friend onto the team, due to their shared love of the show, and being aware of their own lack in creativeness, determining that they would fit the role perfectly, but they later left due to an undisclosed event behind the scenes, which Aidan emphasizes was not related to any bad blood or disagreements.

Gameplay

Miraculous Fighters is a traditional 2D fighter, albeit with a somewhat simpler control scheme. Instead of six attack buttons, there are only four attack buttons. The player is able to pick two characters per team and is able to switch between them, much like many vs. Capcom games; players can also summon the stored character to use a single attack. Characters can regenerate health if they are stored away, but if one character loses their health, the next character comes in.

Its most unique feature, however, is the ability to unify. By performing a full circle input and pressing all attack buttons with only one player left, the player can merge their teammate's Miraculous's powers with their own, becoming a unified hero. With this, they are able to use the other teammate's moves by usage of the other attack button (for example, if an attack is normally activated with a punch button, a unified hero can use it with the kick button).

Miraculous Fighters also has an infinite combo detector, first seen in the indie fighting game Skullgirls: in short, the game can detect when a player is caught in an infinite combo, and if the game detects such, the player can simply press a single button to blow the opponent back and end the combo. This allows for more variety in gameplay, as opposed to cheap and stale combos that are endlessly repeated.

Characters

Miraculous Fighters features every Miraculous holder as a playable character. Each fighter is also able to use their regular appearance as an alternate costume, though they keep their Miraculous tool. Some characters also have alternate character swaps, switching them out for an entirely different character, though with the same moveset in tact, inspired by the Premier Skins from the Injustice series. There are also several slots for one character, utilizing different combinations of Miraculouses seen in the show, akin to Dragon Ball FighterZ and its utilization of the same character in multiple slots.

Other characters come from fellow Zagtoon Animations productions; namely, Pixie Girl, Zak Storm, Ghostforce, Tales of Feryon, Miss Rose, and Gayajin. Additionally, Knightowl, Majestia, and Uncanny Valley, three non-Miraculous superheroes from America, appear as playable characters as well. Finally, as special guest characters (outside of the Zagtoon heroes), the main cast of Code Lyoko, a fellow French cartoon to which Miraculous follows a similar story premise, appears within the roster. However, the ability to unify is unavailable to all guest characters, due to their lack of a Miraculous.
